Chance Encounters of the Fortuitous Kind
What happens when a Crime Writer visits a haunted Castle? Chance meetings, and a brand new Scottish Crime Festival, that’s what happens.
On a recent visit to Glamis Castle I had an idea for a unique event called Crime at the Castle. My head never stops spinning when it comes to murder and mayhem. Not knowing who I should talk to I asked one of the staff at the castle who I should approach. The lovely American lady, Pauline Cowdery, turned out to be the very person I needed, hence chance encounters of the fortuitous kind.
The castle have been amazing and I cannot thank the staff enough for how they have embraced this and worked together with me. As the castle has not yet opened for the season, we will be using many of the rooms such as, The Dining Room, Drawing Room, Chapel, Queen Mother’s Sitting Room, and the small and large 16th Century Chambers. Some of these are not generally open to the public. Bookshop and book signing in a Crypt anyone? Waterstones, Dundee, will be providing the bookshop. I think their staff are trembling in fear.
There is a fabulous line-up of speakers. Who are they? The glitterati of Scottish Crime Writing who’s who. With the likes of Val McDermid, Christopher Brookmyer, Alex Grey, Caro Ramsay, Douglas Skelton, Craig Robertson, Lin Anderson and many more, Scotland is well represented. A mixture of talks, interviews and workshops means there is something for everyone.
Ghosts, Scotland’s top Crime Writers and a historic castle, what’s not to love. See you there, if you dare.
